Bark: Texas Persimmon
Being in the shade, there is obviously plenty of native trees in the garden. One of my trees that has a more interesting bark is the Texas Persimmon (Diospyros texana). The combination of the smooth bark found underneath the shaggy peeling flakes - the play of light and shadows - is quite appealing.

Texas Persimmon is one of my favorite Texas trees. I can't wait for little one to get big. Great photo shots of the gorgeous bark!

ReplyDeleteI always eat a few but feed most to the deer.
Bob: My group of persimmons tend to be understory trees and don't get much sun - so they typically don't produce much fruit (or drop what they have long before ripening. Glad yours do well!
ReplyDeleteWow, those are some gorgeous pictures. I love trees with peeling bark. I bought two trees that were supposed to be Texas Persimmons but they're an odd variety or cross of some kind. No fuzzy leaves, no peeling bark ... I was robbed!
